As I go into day 3 of Essen Spiel, I still have a lot of work ahead of me. I have talked to many different manufacturers (some of which I had never heard of). It seems that when I get back to Canada, I will be spending a fair amount of time sending e-mails and requesting quotes.
Now that Essen Spiel is half over, I can confirm that it has been an enlightening experience and next time I come, I think getting a booth is going to be the right option. While I have talked to a few people, I have found that my visibility is somewhat lacking. There is just so much to see, that one guy with a company t-shirt gets lost in the crowd. This is not a huge problem, as this is my first time at Essen, and the point of this trip was to see how everything works.
The next thing on my list is the print and play for my game. Work had started on this before I came to Germany and I simply ran out of time. I am in Germany for an extra week after Spiel and after that I go back to Canada, at which time I will finalize the files for the print and play, assuming I don’t finish them before that. There is a basic English version in the downloads section, but I would like to clean it up a little and also add the German translation.
There is also the critics. Getting my game into the hands of reviewers is the difference between success and failure, so I will be attempting to track some of them down. I know that Man vs. Meeple and The Dice Tower are at Spiel, but I have been unable to talk to anyone just yet.
Finally, the players. Have you seen me walking around handing out business cards? If you are reading this during Spiel, you likely got handed a card before I vanished into the crowd. If you are interested in play testing the new game, I have demo copies on me at all times. If you seem me walking around, just stop and say hello or failing that, use the contact form on this website to find me. It sends an alert directly to my phone and I would be happy to come find you, so you can try my game.
